We’ll be joined by Raafe Khan, Head of Energy Storage and Emerging Markets at Camelot Energy Group, to learn about the current state of Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES) technologies and their implications for energy generation and electrical system decarbonization nationally and in Colorado. Raafe will explore the status of LDES technologies, their economics, where they can fit into evolving electricity markets, and what they can do to increase the penetration of renewable energy generation and reduce reliance on fossil generation resources. 2024 Energy Flowchart: The Case for Beneficial Electrification

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) publishes flow charts summarizing U.S. national & state energy usage. The most widely cited of these charts is the U.S. national energy flow chart, also known as a Sankey diagram, a visualization technique showing proportional flows and efficiency. Speaker Doug Vander Wilt joins us to discuss energy transition trends & strategies and highlight the value of beneficial electrification, based on the latest 2024 energy flowchart data released in August of this year. Agrivoltaics in Colorado: Solar Energy, Working Lands & Community Solutions

Discover how agrivoltaics, the strategic combination of solar energy and agricultural production on the same land, can support renewable energy development while helping maintain Colorado’s working lands. Allison Jackson of the Colorado Agrivoltaic Learning Center (CALC) will share Colorado examples, discuss the opportunities and challenges of agrivoltaic development, and highlight CALC’s work in education, community engagement, technical assistance, and policy. Dancing with Deadpool: The 27-year-long Colorado River CrisisThursday, October 22 at 7:00 PM | Hybrid Event
Since 2000, the Colorado River has lost 20% of its annual flow, with higher temperatures and precipitation declines to blame. Up to half of this loss has been attributed to human-caused warming. Lakes Powell and Mead have lost two-thirds of their volume, are at unprecedented low levels and are nearing deadpool. How did we get here? What river flows and climate might we expect going forward? What solutions might work? Bradley H. Udall, Senior Water and Climate Research Scientist / Scholar at Colorado State University’s Colorado Water Center, joins us to take a deeper look at the issues.
