The Future is in Our Hands: How Can We Increase Solar in Colorado?

In 2017, Colorado ranked 11th in the nation for installed solar capacity, is home to more than 454 solar companies, and the state employs about 6,000 people in solar. But growth has slowed in the past year. Are there some best practices that can help Colorado rebound and recover its remarkable growth?

Speaker Deirdre Macnab, chair of a campaign in Florida to make the Sunshine state #1 in Solar, will share some tools that are working in Florida, and have resulted in 110% growth rate in residential solar as well as built an army of volunteers.

Colorado is way ahead of Florida in the number of homes with solar, but the most recent year saw a reduction of 30% in new solar permits from the prior year. Can the concept of a neighborhood cooperative help rejuvenate growth in Colorado? Some successful social media campaigns and messaging that worked in Florida will also be discussed.

The speaker, Deidre McNab, former president of the Florida League of Women Voters, is highly motivated and well connected in promoting residential solar. She has been a champion for a successful program in Florida creating multiple residential rooftop solar co-ops, which lower the cost of rooftop solar through bulk purchasing.
