We will be joined by Dave Mooney of NREL who’ll discuss recent studies modeling high penetration of renewable energy on national and regional electric grids of up to 80% renewables. He’ll discuss challenges and opportunities including utility scale storage, the role of markets, and demand response management and how they apply here in Colorado.
Dr. David Mooney is the Director of the Strategic Energy Analysis Center at NREL (nrel.gov/analysis/) which reviews the latest in wind and solar technologies and markets along with current economic impacts of increased renewables deployments. Includes a brief overview of NREL’s research into power grid operations under scenarios of high penetrations of wind and solar. Prior to his current role, Dave was the Laboratory Program Manager for Solar Technologies, where he was responsible for managing and coordinating NREL’s $70M solar R&D portfolio. While at NREL, Dave also led efforts to identify and address technical issues associated with the large-scale deployment and integration of renewable and efficiency technologies into the existing energy infrastructure.
The presentation will be held at Odell Brewing Company’s taproom at 800 E. Lincoln Avenue in Fort Collins. Doors open at 7 pm with presentation commencing at 7:30 and running through 8:30 pm.
There is a $5.00 entry fee for non-members but the event is Free for CRES Members (includes one complimentary beverage).
