Where the Future Takes Root

Submit a Project!  Deadline Extended to 12/30/2011

An entire city block (2.7 acres) at 2500 Lawrence Street in downtown Denver is being transformed into a cutting-edge sustainability park through a partnership of the Colorado Renewable Energy Society (CRES), Denver Housing Authority (DHA) and Urban Farmers Collaborative. The park will serve as a demonstration and testing site for innovative renewable energy, green building, and urban farm installations.

What is a sustainability park?
A unique initiative, collaboratively designed, to reach an international audience with a vision and blueprint for healthy communities and sustainable development.

Why is a sustainability park important?
The park creates a coordinated effort to analyze, communicate, educate and facilitate the benefits of sustainable development and green technologies.

How will the park benefit the community and region?
Partnering with dedicated and knowledgeable organizations allows the park to feature, test and demonstrate many programs on topics such as:

  • Renewable Energy – solar, geothermal, micro-wind turbines, passive design, metering and smart grid

  • Green Building Technologies – passive design, energy and water efficiency, materials and resources

  • Urban Farming and Xeriscaping – local food production, community nutrition education, farmers market

  • Green Job Training – work with community colleges and other workforce development entities and nonprofits to educate and train future employees

  • Transportation Alternatives – plug-in electric car stations, bike share kiosk, bus stop and schedules

Core Objectives:

  • Promote Renewable Energy & Sustainable Design

  • Community Outreach & Education

  • Job Training

  • Research and Development

  • Demonstration Projects & Pilot Programs

The park is moving forward with many projects already becoming a reality. The park’s progress will be updated here.
