“What
the Federal Stimulus Will Mean for Colorado’s New Energy Economy”
with Jeff Lyng of the Governor’s Energy Office Thursday,
May 28, in Golden, and Online Via Live Webcast!
The next public meeting of the Colorado Renewable Energy Society
will feature Jeff Lyng from the Colorado Governor’s Energy Office,
who will discuss “What the Federal Stimulus Will Mean for Colorado’s
New Energy Economy.”
When President Obama came to Denver to sign the American
Reinvestment & Recovery Act in February –
and had CRES Business Member
Namaste Solar on stage next to him – it sent a clear message
that the rest of America should follow Colorado's lead in creating a
New Energy Economy for the 21st Century and beyond. Now that
stimulus funding from this legislation is starting to reach
Colorado, join CRES to find out how this will help further the goals
of the New Energy Economy.
Jeff Lyng is the Renewable Energy Program Manager at the Colorado
Governor’s Energy Office (GEO). He has also served as a Technical
Consultant at Xcel Energy. In 2006, Jeff was the recipient of both
the John & Barbara Yellot Award from the American Solar Energy
Society (ASES, CRES’s parent organization) and the Mark McCray Award
from the Colorado Solar Energy Industries Association (CoSEIA). He
was Project Manager for the University of Colorado team that won the
U.S. Department of Energy’s “Solar Decathlon” in 2005. Jeff is
currently on the Board of Directors of ASES, and has also served on
the CRES Board. He has an M.S. in Civil Engineering from the
University of Colorado and a B.S. in Ecology from the SUNY College
of Environmental Science and Forestry.
This meeting will take place on Thursday, May 28, 7:00 PM, at the
Jefferson Unitarian Church, 14350 West 32nd Avenue (about a mile
west of I-70) in Golden. PLEASE CARPOOL AND ARRIVE EARLY, as the JUC
parking lot can fill up quite quickly. There are overflow lots at
the park about two blocks west of the JUC, and in the Applewood
Shopping Center on the east side of I-70.

Maurice
Albertson Scholarship Fund for CRES Conference Volunteers
CRES has established the Maurice Albertson Scholarship Fund to help
offset costs for those who volunteer to assist with the annual
Colorado Renewable Energy Conference (CREC). Maurice “Maury”
Albertson, professor emeritus at CSU, one of the architects of the
U.S. Peace Corps, and an early supporter of the Colorado Renewable
Energy Society, died at the age of 90 on January 11. As recently as
two years ago, he was working on a collaboration called Village
Earth to end global poverty. His exemplary life of volunteerism was
the inspiration for establishing this scholarship fund.
Scholarships will be based on an individual's contribution to the
successful operation of the CRES Conference, which will be held at
the Colorado School of Mines in Golden on the weekend of August
28-30.
Volunteers are needed in the following areas: -
Conference Set-up and Logistics; - Registration; -
Workshop/Session Monitors; - Audio-visual; - Conference
Clean-up; - and other duties (as required).
Please support this worthy cause and help maintain the CRES
Conference’s status as one of the premier events of its kind in
Colorado!

Download PDF; and
-

energy projects;

2009 session of the Colorado State Legislature!
ASES & Solar Nation Urge
Congress to Strengthen the Waxman-Markey Bill
Solar Nation (now in partnership with the American Solar Energy
Society, CRES’s parent organization) has put out a call to either
strengthen “America's Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009” –
introduced by Rep.'s Henry Waxman (D-CA) and Edward Markey (D-MA) –
or start over.
The U.S. Congress' first response to President Obama's
groundbreaking campaign promise to move the country toward a clean
energy economy has garnered reactions ranging from lukewarm support
to profound disappointment. At Solar Nation, we're in the latter
group. And we're looking for your help.
HR 2454, America's Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 (the
'Waxman-Markey' bill), has come out of committee like a patient
discharged from hospital two hours after major surgery -- enfeebled,
impotent, and a shadow of his original self. And this is before the
full House and Senate get to run the poor fellow down in the parking
lot. (They're already gunning for him: Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX) has up
to 400 amendments ready to roll, and they won't be aimed at making
him any healthier).
You can read the rest of this action – and take action with your own
member of Congress – at the following link to Solar Nation:
