3. Gestring / Rocky Mountain Battery

This commercial building walks the talk. We included it on the Tour because there are a few features that can translate to residential use. The first thing that people will notice is the canopy over the door – it is made up of translucent pv panels and is a terrific way to get a few panels in if you don’t have a south facing roof. Many times people will also use a panel as an overhang above the windows. For shading on south facing glass, an overhang is needed, so why not make it out of a pv panel?

This building does not look as if it has any other renewable applications on it – but it does. The owner will take people to the roof – in an enclosed, transparent viewing platform, lifted up by a forklift. Once there, the visitors will see one of the largest grid tied pv display that we have on the Tour.
