We
have another house that will just be finishing construction in time for the
Tour this year. This modernist glass and stone spec house has a number of green
techniques in the home. While there is no way to gauge this yet, but it is anticipated
that it will be a Net-Zero, or near Net-Zero home.
Built in an older neighborhood with bungalows as neighbors, it takes advantage of the existing mature trees to buffer the sun coming into the house during the summer. It is also designed to have an exterior that will require no maintenance as most of it is stone, composite siding and glass.
This large home was built using a number of products that do not emit harmful or offensive chemicals when used. Several methods were used to reduce the dust in the air and improve the indoor air quality.
The area behind the entry is flooded with light from a large window wall.
The weakness that the architects/owners/developers see with the house is the economic viability of all the green and energy efficient features used.
