14. Isley - Rice
This 3500 square foot house, was finished a few years ago, and has been functioning quite well during the winters. This is the second time the house has been open for the Tour, so see it now because it won’t be repeated for a while. The house was designed and built as green and was constructed out of structural insulated panels with an R value of 40 in the walls.
The owners are dedicated to energy conservation and green building techniques. They say, “We decided to design and build our home this way because we believe that green construction and solar energy are the need of the future. We wanted to demonstrate innovation in home design and how to build a home that uses less energy and is still a beautiful and comfortable home.”
They have carried that theme throughout the house and even into their retails store where they continue to put in state-of-the-art equipment and techniques that enhance thermal efficiency and reduce energy consumption.
