Colorado Legislature Votes to Support NREL
February 7, 2006
The Colorado House of Representatives unanimously
passed a resolution on January 26 supporting the National Renewable
Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden. The resolution urges President
Bush and members of Congress to make sure NREL is not subject to
funding cuts in the 2007 that the laboratory is being subjected to
in 2006.
The resolution was sponsored by Representative Gwyn
Green (D-Golden), whose district is home to NREL. Green said, “This
resolution is important for the future of renewable energy in the
country, and the future of NREL and our Colorado economy.”
Last week House leadership took the resolution a step
further by forming a Select Committee on Strategic Renewable Energy
for Colorado. The House Select Committee, which will hold public
hearings during the 2006 session, will be comprised of House
Majority Leader Alice Madden (D-Boulder), Judy Solano (D-Brighton),
and Rafael Gallegos (D- San Luis Valley); House Minority Leader Joe
Stengel (R-Littleton) will be able to appoint two Republican
lawmakers to the committee.
Madden said, "We owe it to the hard working people of
Colorado to do everything we can do to promote affordable and
dependable sources of renewable energy.” . |
