Xcel Announces Large Wind Power Purchase

Xcel Energy announced the largest purchase of wind
power in the company’s history December 28 in Denver. The said it
intended to purchase contracts for 775 megawatts (MW) by 2007, which
would make the company the largest distributor of wind-generated
electricity in the United States. The company made the announcement
as part of its least-cost resource plan filed with the Colorado
Public Utility Commission (PUC) on December 15. Read more about the

Xcel also said it intended to acquire 1,300 MW of
gas-fired generation between 2007 and 2012. And it will add up to 30
MW of efficiency resources, or demand-side management, which will be
