Vestas
Wind Blade Plant Opens in Windsor
A new wind turbine blade manufacturing plant
opened in Windsor last week with a ceremony attended by a bevy of
Colorado dignitaries. The plant is owned and operated by Vestas Wind Turbines, the largest wind turbine manufacturing firm in
the world. When it begins operating at full capacity by late
spring, the plant will produce 1,800 wind large wind turbine blades
every year and employ 650 people.
New wind turbine blades are stunning structures ─
these will span almost half a football field and weigh about 6 tons
each. The blades will be used on Vestas wind turbines rated at
1.65 megawatts (MW) and 3 MW.
Colorado Governor Bill Ritter addressed the
gathering, declaring the plant's opening a victory for the state.
"What we're doing here puts Colorado, and the nation, on a path
toward a more secure and independent energy future," he said.
