Solar Panels Installed on Governor's Residence
July 25, 2007
Colorado First Lady Jeannie Ritter announced in late
June the installation of two solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on the
governor’s residence in Denver. The PV systems have a combined rated
capacity of almost 10 kilowatts (kW), and will generate more than
11,000 kWh of electricity every year.
One system, rated at 7.4 kW, will sit atop the Tebo
Visitor’s Center and is being installed by Namaste Solar Electric
Company in Boulder. The other system, rated at 2.4 kW, is being
installed on the Pump House by Sun Electric Systems in Lafayette.
Ritter made the announcement with Colorado Energy
Office Director Tom Plant, who said, “These two systems will offset
about 10.5 tons of carbon dioxide per year.” Plant also announced
that the state will seek to install PV on several state buildings.
The PV systems on the governor’s residence are being
funded from the savings on the energy bills due to an energy
efficiency project conducted at the Colorado Capitol Complex. This
efficiency project was managed by the Governor’s Energy Office and
conducted by Chevron Energy Solutions.
