Vestas Plans Wind Production Facility in Windsor

January 25, 2007

Vestas Americas in Portland, Oregon, announced late last week that it is planning to build a wind turbine production facility near Windsor in northern Colorado.  The Vestas parent company is based in Copenhagen, Denmark, and is the largest manufacturer of wind turbines in the world.  Last year it supplied about 35% of the wind turbines (measured by capacity) installed worldwide.

The production facility will be located at the Great Western Industrial Park, which is next door to the Kodak facility in Windsor.  Vestas is currently negotiating with the Upstate Colorado Economic Development group about services to the facility.  According to news reports, the new plant will support 400 jobs.  For details, see the story that first appeared in the January 19 online edition of the Northern Colorado Business Report. http://www.ncbr.com/article.asp?id=84865

Earlier in the month, Vestas Americas announced a major shipment of wind turbines for the Smokey Hills Wind Farm in western Kansas.  The wind farm is to be built by ENEL North America, which is a subsidiary of the Italian utility ENEL that is one of the largest wind power developers in the world.  The shipments are scheduled to arrive at the new wind farm, which will have an initial rated capacity of 100 megawatts, in the fall of 2007.  See the Vestas January 2 press release.
