Renewable Energy and Energy
Efficiency Can Hold Carbon Emissions Steady
February 14, 2007
The American Solar Energy
Society (ASES) released a groundbreaking report that shows how
renewable energy and energy efficiency can reduce carbon emissions
enough to stabilize levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. ASES
released the report at a press conference in Washington D.C.
attended by ASES Executive Director Brad Collins, CRES member and of
the Solar 2006 Conference Chair Chuck Kutscher, and NASA Scientist
Jim Hansen. Read Chuck Kutscher's Washington remarks:

The report is titled "Tackling
Climate Change in the United States" and is the result of more than
a year and half effort on the part of volunteer energy experts. ASES
asked these experts to estimate how much their respective energy
technologies could reduce carbon emissions by 2030 if the United
States were to put an aggressive implementation program in place.
The result is nine papers that
show that if taken seriously, energy efficiency can hold U.S.
emissions steady even as the economy grows. And renewable energy
technologies can bring deep cuts to emissions from the current
levels. Of the total emissions reductions, 57% come from energy
efficiency, and 43% from renewable energy.
