CU Wins Solar Decathlon

The University of Colorado (CU) won the 2005 Solar
Decathlon on Friday, October 14. This is the second time in two
years that CU has taken home the top honors in this competition to
build the most efficient and attractive solar house on the National
Mall in Washington D.C.
According to press reports, the CU team was able
to adjust to the rainy weather and score the most points in the last
days of the competition. CU finished with 853 points of a possible
1,100. The Cornell University team finished second with 826 points,
and California Polytechnic State University took third place with

Students from 18 collegiate teams from the United
States, Puerto Rico, Canada, and Spain competed in 10 areas
including architecture and solar design for space heating and
cooling, hot water, lighting, and appliances. Each house also had to
produce enough power for an electric car. For more information, see
