Owner’s Comments: We chose this house because it lent itself well to
our home business and it was located near my sister’s house. This
house is oriented for the view and not for solar gain. We could
greatly reduce our winter heating needs if it were properly
oriented. We used a carbon neutral wood burning stove, 1.7 ppm
particulate emissions, carbon neutral pellet stove, .7 ppm
particulate emissions. I hope to have a plug-in hybrid electric or
all electric vehicle at some point.

Solar
Six Condominiums
Description: As the name
indicates, this is an older group of six moderately sized
condominiums.
Year Built: 1981
Classification: Older
homes
Size: 1008 sq. ft.
Utility Bills: $50 per
month including gas and electricity
Features:
-
Passive solar
-
Domestic hot water
-
South orientation
-
Efficient lighting
-
Wood burning stove
Owners Comments: The
condo has two upper decks that open onto a central vaulted ceiling.
Energy
efficient design elements give the place an open feel and require
very little electricity use during the day. This is a good example
of how solar technologies can be incorporated into a multi-family
development.
