English Becky English's lifelong interest in
environment and sustainability morphed into a concentration on
energy issues several years ago when her concern about climate
change caused her to seek ways to help meet the great challenge of

Jeffrey Miller
Jeffrey Miller has taught environmental
science for the Metropolitan State College of Denver, the
Environmental Protection Agency, and most recently Advanced
Placement environmental science, earth science, and physics for
Denver Public Schools (DPS) at the Denver School of the Arts.
Recent work with DPS has included district-level teacher
leadership activities in professional development and an on-going
partnership National Science Foundation grant with the University
Corporation for Atmospheric Research to develop an online digital
curriculum service for middle and high school earth science
teachers adopted by school districts in Colorado and Utah and now
available nationwide.
Jeff’s 24-year teaching experience has
included teacher training and curriculum development with the
National Geographic Society at the Center for Geographic Education
at CU-Boulder, The Metropolitan State College of Denver, and the
Encyclopedia Britannica Corporation. Last year, he was selected as
an Amgen Corporation fellow in the National Science Teacher
Association’s Teacher Academy. His wide-ranging experience has
taught him that teachers who live their passion and teach to the
student—no matter their age—can create positive change in the
world.
Jeff cites a high school biology teacher,
a college geography professor, and a PBS astronomer in explaining
why he has devoted his own teaching career to environmental and
earth science studies. His high school teacher taught him the
basics of how to do science in the field; the professor, the
intimate and profound connections between the environment and
human activities; and the astronomer, Carl Sagan, for reinforcing
Jeff’s own sense of awe and wonder of the Universe in which Earth
is but a small but precious part.
